In the framework of this project we are carrying out a range of activities to disseminate information on internationalisation and localisation.
Workshop | Discovering localisation: beyond translation
European Researchers' Night was held simultaneously in 250 cities, including the city of Granada, on 28th and 29th September 2018. This outreach project is supported by the European Commission within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions of Horizon 2020 programme. The aim of this research outreach project is to bring science and research closer to citizens. The public had the opportunity to become familiarised with the work of researchers and the positive impact of science on society and in everyday life through various fun activities. Researchers' Night is also a way to enhance the role of researchers in society, fight clichés regarding research and spark an interest in science among young people.
The workshop "Discovering localisation: beyond translation" was one of the more than a hundred activities organized in Granada. This workshop was hosted by Juncal Gutiérrez Artacho, María Dolores Olvera Lobo and Irene Rivera Trigueros, research members of LOCWEB_PYME. In addition, Celia Castillo, Elena Moya and Mar Díaz contributed to the workshop. First of all, LOCWEB_PYME project was presented. The aim of this project is to facilitate and improve the localisation process of Spanish SMEs' corporative websites through a multidisciplinary approach (including linguistics, terminology, translation, documentation, technology and education). Secondly, the concept of web localisation was introduced through fun examples drawn from websites, advertisement, videogames and film. The hosts also stressed the importance of both translation and, particularly, localisation in the current process of internationalisation and globalisation.
